This carefully selected peaberry lot comes to us from the highland plateaus on the south side of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Lyamungo is one of four individually managed farms that make up the African Plantations Kilimanjaro (APK) estate. This washed lot is made up entirely of peaberries, a natural mutation that occurs in 5–12% of all coffee grown. Normally coffee beans grow two to a cherry, flat against each other. Instead, a peaberry grows as a single seed inside the cherry and tends to be rounder, smaller, and denser than the typical beans. Known to be intensely sweet and flavorful, peaberries are highly sought- after for both their unique flavors and relative rarity.
